A Fantastic Trip: from script to film.
The story process of feature films and animation - From Fantastic Mr. Fox to Frankenweenie.
Christian DeVita was lead story artist on the Oscar and BAFTA nominated Wes Anderson adaptation of Roal Dahl classic Fantastic Mr. Fox.
For 2 years he worked developing and visualizing Anderson's unique visual style and concepts for his adaptation of this children's tale of a suave yet rebellious fox who tries to get the better of three of the meanest farmers that ever lived. Working closely with Anderson in Paris, while the project was in full production at the 3 Mills Studios in East London, Christian had a studied insight into the workings of the director and his techniques, bringing to life each scene with his inimitable style.
As well as working closely with Anderson Christian worked story with another visual director: Tim Burton. Drawing from his experiences with both directors, and his past work in television and animation, the lecture captures the process, from early concepts and thumbnails to completed footage, taking in the various stages of production, techniques used and quirky anecdotal events occur throughout the production. Christian accompanies his presentation with plenty of clips from the story process, art department, live sets, animation as well as some behind the scenes footage.
"A strong concept, a great story well told, and an fresh visual look is what draws me in."
